In Memory of Rich Lee
August 17, 2004

When the news came that you were in the building (9-11) when it went down, I shuddered and then went numb. You were such a gentle soul; I could not grasp such a horrible end to your life. You had so much talent, skills galore and love to give. I went to your service at the Punahou Chapel hoping to release some of sadness. As I entered the Chapel, I saw your brothers Buddy and Alix and I was over come with grief.

I thought back to our time together. It was your senior year and what a year you had. The touchdown run, a great season in soccer, always writing and playing music, handling your AP classes and then you "maxed" the college entrance exams and got accepted to Yale. And, you did it all with such ease. I remember teasing you about how it wasn't fair for one person to have so much talent. The rest of the members of our "Living Well Class" would join in; complaining how easy everything was for you and then that look. You were touched, genuinely embarrassed, and sensitive to the feelings of others. You were not only multi-talented, big and strong and fast, you were also kind and sensitive and loving.

I was touched by what a great young man you became, impressed by your achievements and over-whelmed with sadness for your wife and young son. It seems impossible that you life is over and that you have been taken at such a young age.

I hope some day I will have a chance to tell your wife and son what a great guy you were.

God Bless and rest easy,

Brad
